From One Artifact To Another
Dear Princess Luna,
A thousand years.
You might be the only pony who has any chance of grasping what that means for the Crystal Empire. What it means to close your eyes and wake up with the world advanced around you by a millenium. It might not even strike you the way it strikes us, since you are, after all, a goddess with a lifespan measured in millennia, so let me just repeat that for emphasis.
A thousand years.
The world has changed and our culture is now hopelessly out of date. A relic of the distant past. We're confronting ideas and inventions that we were never supposed to have to face. Princess Cadenza and Prince Armor do what they
Where there had been a thriving crystal city, there was only arctic wasteland.
"We have defeated King Sombra, dear sister!" The princess triumphantly exclaimed.
Her sister was much more subdued. "Yes, but he took the entire Crystal Empire with him. I can't help but wonder whether there was a better way, or if we should even have gotten involved at all."
"How can you say that? Sombra was evil, and a threat to Equestria besides. Against such a foe, there can be no holding back!"
"Is there no reason, no circumstance that could justify an alternative, Luna?"
"None, dear Celestia."
Rarity scrutinized herself in the mirror, adjusting her tie magically. Applejack looked on with bemusement.

"-to dress like a stallion? Applejack, darling, when it comes right down to it, I live for style and fashion," she slicked her hair back with a hoof, "and sometimes nothing is more roguishly stylish than dressing in drag." Satisfied with her appearance, she grinned devilishly at Applejack's reflection, which blushed and gulped nervously, "Now, you can either put that suit on, or I'm going to pull out the 'frou frou' dresses."
